The Ottawa Senators announced this morning that they have goaltender, Joonas Korpisalo.
Well it's one hour into free agency and the Senators have found their netminder. The Senators announced this afternoon that they have signed goaltender, Joonas Korpisalo to a five-year, $4 million AAV contract.
The contract will break down as follows:
2023-24: $4 million
2024-25: $5 million
2025-26: $4.5 million
2026-27: $3.5 million
2027-28: $3 million
Korpisalo has played eight seasons in the NHL after being drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2012 NHL Draft. He spent the entirety of his career in Columbus until being traded to the LA Kings ahead of the trade deadline this past season, where he assumed the reins for the Kings playoffs.
In 221 career games (201 starts), Korpisalo boasts a 0.904% save percentage, and a 3.01 Goals Against Average. Last season he put up a 0.914% save percentage and 2.87 goals against average, the second and third best marks of his career.
Beyond his ability alone, Korpisalo brings playoff experience having made it in two of the last four seasons. With the Senators right on the cusp of being a playoff team his presence between the pipes will be a major asset in helping to make that jump.
