One of the most special parts about being an athlete in Buffalo is the time we get to spend at Roswell Park.

Each and every visit is a rewarding experience. You get there and immediately hear how excited everyone is to see the Sabres, from the patients to the nurses and hospital staff. Not that you need to - you can see how much it means to them on their faces.

But as much as we try to make an impact on the patients we meet, I believe the impact these visits have on us is just as significant. Talking to people who are dealing with such adversity in their life changes your perspective. The strength you might see in an 8-year-old going through a difficult situation is something that always sticks with you.

A lot of times, the relationships stick too. We have kids come watch games and visit the locker room and get to know them as years pass. Those experiences are one of my favorite aspects of being a member of the Sabres and something I will always be thankful for.
