After practice Wednesday, Buffalo Sabres coach Don Granato reflected on the moment he received dozens of text messages following the news that the Sabres were claiming Tyson Jost off waivers.
"When we acquired him, my phone lit up with people talking about what a great person he is, what a talented hockey player he is, and he's certainly showed that," Granato said. "He just fits right in with these guys."
Through his first 11 games, Jost has helped the Sabres to a 6-3-2 record since being claimed from Minnesota on November 19.

Jost has recorded one goal and two assists and has centered both the third and fourth lines alongside the likes of Zemgus Girgensons, Kyle Okposo, Rasmus Asplund, Casey Mittelstadt, and Victor Olofsson.
"I feel like I've been fitting in great," Jost said. "Just awesome guys, no egos. It's been a real easy dressing room to come into and get acclimated, so I've been loving it so far."

Jost expressed how he has been able to find his game and a rhythm in Buffalo in the past month.
"The coaching staff has been outstanding," Jost said. "Don's been just tremendous, and just his communication and the way he lets us play."
"…Just being able to play my game and go out there is key, it's tough when you're not in a rhythm and you're kind of playing in your own head.
"They're great here at recognizing that and letting us play our game. So, it's been awesome. I've loved every second so far, the guys, the coaching staff, the fans, it's been great."
Jost returns to Ball Arena in Colorado for the first time against his former team when the Sabres open up a three-game road trip against the Avalanche on Thursday. Colorado traded Jost to the Wild on March 16.
Coverage on MSG begins at 8:30 p.m. with puck drop slated for 9.
Here are more notes from Wednesday's practice.
1.The Sabres practiced without Okposo and defenseman Jacob Bryson, who both took maintenance days ahead of the road trip.
Vinnie Hinostroza skated in Okposo's place after missing the last six games with an injury. Granato said that Hinostroza is now ready to go and could return to the lineup.
Ilya Lyubushkin returned to practice for the first time since sustaining a lower-body injury against the Lightning on November 28.
Granato believes that Lyubushkin needs more practice time before returning but could possibly play later in the trip.
2. Here's how the Sabres lined up, with Kale Clague skating on a pair with Owen Power in Bryson's absence.
| Practice - December 14 | | --- | | LW | C | RW | | 37 Casey Mittelstadt | 72 Tage Thompson | 89 Alex Tuch | | 77 JJ Peterka | 24 Dylan Cozens | 22 Jack Quinn | | 74 Rasmus Asplund | 17 Tyson Jost | 71 Victor Olofsson | | 28 Zemgus Girgensons | 19 Peyton Krebs | 29 Vinnie Hinostroza | | 53 Jeff Skinner | | | | LD | RD | G | | 23 Mattias Samuelsson | 26 Rasmus Dahlin | 41 Craig Anderson | | 25 Owen Power | 38 Kale Clague | 1 Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen | | 20 Lawrence Pilut | 45 Casey Fitzgerald | | | | 46 Ilya Lyubushkin | |
3. Alex Tuch tallied a goal and an assist in Buffalo's 6-0 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday, bringing his totals to 14 goals and 16 assists in 29 games.
Granato was asked Wednesday about Tuch's impact and consistency this season.
"This is a guy that is nowhere near his potential as an NHL player," Granato said.
"When you have a guy that's that talented, if he's bringing it consistent, those numbers are going to soar. So, he's done a nice job of staying focused in the moment."
4.The Sabres are now 3-0 and have outscored opponents 18-5 while wearing their "goathead" third jerseys.
Jost has become a big fan of the black and red.
"I love them. I think they're sweet uniforms," Jost said. "They're pretty cool. We look sharp out there with them, and obviously, our record is pretty good with them too."
Buffalo will wear the black and red next on December 23 against the Tampa Bay Lightning at KeyBank Center. Tickets are on sale now.
