Connor McDavid, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins to skate Tuesday

EDMONTON -- Centers Connor McDavid and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins will not be in the lineup when the Edmonton Oilers open the preseason on Monday with split-squad games against the Calgary Flames.
McDavid and Nugent-Hopkins, who played for Team North America at the World Cup of Hockey 2016, are scheduled to practice with the Oilers on Tuesday.

"They'll be on the ice Tuesday morning," general manager Peter Chiarelli said Saturday. "As far as Leon [Draisaitl] and [Andrej Sekera], we'll probably give them the same amount of time off. That's the plan."
Draisaitl and Sekera are playing for Team Europe, which plays Team Sweden in a semifinal game Sunday.
Chiarelli was GM of Team North America, which failed to qualify for the semifinals. Team North America, made up of players from the United States and Canada who are 23 and younger, defeated Team Finland 4-1, lost to Team Russia 4-3 and defeated Team Sweden 4-3 in overtime.
"We did better than I had expected," Chiarelli said. "I thought we'd give the Finns a good run going in and I wasn't sure how we'd do against Russia and Sweden. But as those exhibition games progressed, I could see us picking up momentum and the guys starting to gel."
The Oilers play at the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday. Edmonton opens the regular season Oct. 12 at its new arena, Rogers Place, against the Flames.
