PHI@MTL: Flyers, Canadiens remember Dale Hawerchuk

The Winnipeg Jets are giving their fans one more chance to honor "Ducky."

The Jets announced they would move the Dale Hawerchuk banner from Bell MTS Place to True North Square where fans could pay respects to the former Winnipeg forward who died of stomach cancer at 57 on Tuesday.

Hawerchuk played his first nine seasons in Winnipeg and had 929 of his 1,409 career NHL points as a member of the Jets. His No. 10 was honored by the organization, and he was inducted into the Jets Hall of Fame in 2017.

Hawerchuk was honored during a moment of silence before both each of the four Stanley Cup Playoff games Tuesday, and Dallas Stars coach Rick Bowness, who played with Hawerchuk for two seasons in Winnipeg, was visibly emotional.

"There's elite athletes and elite people, and Dale was both," Bowness said after Dallas' 2-1 win against the Calgary Flames in Game 4 of the Western Conference First Round. "The Jet family in the 1980s and 90s was a close family, and we lost a huge part of our Jet family."

Hawerchuk's death resonated across the hockey world, and current players, especially members of the Jets like Blake Wheeler, took to Twitter to pay their respects.
