Sharks continue to roll with Jones against Canucks

VANCOUVER --Goalie Martin Jones will make his 10th straight start for the San Jose Sharks against the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday while new backup James Reimer gets some practice time to adjust to new teammates and a new system.
Reimer was traded to the Sharks by the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday, but delays getting a permit to work in the United States prevented him from meeting his new teammates until they arrived in Vancouver on Wednesday.

"Just hurry up and wait," Reimer said of the delays.
Reimer will have to wait at least a couple more days to play, if not longer. Jones already defeated the Canucks once this week, making 23 saves in a 4-1 win in Vancouver on Sunday, and could play again when the Sharks host the Canucks on Saturday.
"I'm excited to get in but you make the most of any situation, whether you get thrown in right way or after a couple practices," Reimer said. "When you can get accustomed to the group and get a couple practices in, you feel a little more settled in."
San Jose coach Pete DeBoer wasn't committing to Reimer's first start date, or how many he would make the rest of the season. Jones is 31-17-4 in his first season as a No.1 goaltender, while Reimer was 11-12-7 with the rebuilding Maple Leafs, but Reimer's .918 save percentage is slightly better than Jones' .917 this season.
"I don't think it's a mentoring situation," DeBoer said of adding Reimer. "Jones has been our starter. He's been great all year. We were at the point we were putting an awful lot on Jones' plate and we wanted to make sure going into the [Stanley Cup Playoffs] that he wasn't worn out. … I feel very comfortable that I am going to be able to play both guys and I think it's going to be important to play both guys heading into the playoffs."
The Sharks called up right wing Micheal Haley from San Jose of the American Hockey League on Thursday to replace Melker Karlsson, who DeBoer said is dealing with a minor injury, but will otherwise dress the same lineup that defeated the Canucks on Sunday.
Vancouver will continue to experiment with an increasingly young lineup. A rib injury to top-line right wing Jannik Hansen on Tuesday led to Brendan Gaunce being called up from the AHL. Gaunce, 21, will play against the Sharks despite not having his equipment arrive in time to practice Wednesday.
"It is nice when you have the young guys that have stuff to prove because they don't care where you are at [in the standings]," coach Willie Desjardins said. "They are just trying to get a spot for next year so we should have a lot of that in the lineup."

Status report:The Sharks also called DeMelo up from the AHL on Thursday, but DeBoer said he would not play against the Canucks. … Hansen is expected to miss at least a week, and likely two, Desjardins said. … Vrbata, who has practiced twice and skated again Thursday, should be ready to return Saturday, which may force Desjardins to sit out a veteran as part of management's mandate to play younger players more down the stretch. "It's really hard if a veteran has to come out, so I think there has to be some onus that the player coming in has to do his job as well," Desjardins said. "They have to compete for that."
