Beauvillier helps Canucks win in return to New York

ELMONT, N.Y. -- Anthony Beauvillier scored in the third period to help the Vancouver Canucks rally for a 6-5 win against the New York Islanders at UBS Arena on Thursday.

Beauvillier, who was acquired in the trade that sent Bo Horvat to the Islanders on Jan. 30, made it 6-4 on a power play with 3:02 remaining.
"I was trying to breathe and soak it all in," Beauvillier said. "I was trying to breathe. It took me a couple minutes. There were a couple times I forgot which bench I was going to."

VAN@NYI: Pettersson nets second goal of game in 3rd

Elias Pettersson had two goals and an assist, and Brock Boeser had a goal and three assists for the Canucks (21-27-4), who responded after a 4-3 loss at the New York Rangers on Wednesday. Collin Delia made 24 saves.
"We were doing [well]," Petersson said. "Our pace was there. I think everyone felt we [had] jump, that we [could] get some goals today. It felt good to win."
Mathew Barzal had a goal and two assists, and Noah Dobson had a goal and an assist for the Islanders (27-23-5), who had won four in a row and led 4-2 in the second period. Ilya Sorokin, who had a shutout in each of his previous two starts, allowed six goals in 34 shots.
Horvat, who had 31 goals for Vancouver this season, scored in his second straight game for New York. He was Canucks captain from the start of the 2019-20 season until the trade and had 420 points (201 goals, 219 assists) in 621 games for them after being a first-round pick (No. 9) at the 2013 NHL Draft.
"If you were going to write it up any way … obviously, I would have liked to get the win," Horvat said. "I'm glad both of us got on the board at least against our former teams, but it stings a little bit that we didn't get that win."

VAN@NYI: Beauvillier scores against former team

Pettersson tied it 4-4 at 4:38 of the third with a power-play goal that appeared to graze off Sorokin's pad. He scored again at 8:28 with a wrist shot from the right face-off circle to give Vancouver a 5-4 lead.
Beauvillier made it 6-4 on a redirection of Boeser's shot at 16:58.
Selected in the first round (No. 28) of the 2015 NHL Draft, Beauvillier had 209 points (102 goals, 107 assists) in 457 regular-season games, and 29 points (15 goals, 14 assists) in 49 Stanley Cup Playoff games for the Islanders.
"I can finally turn the page for good now," Beauvillier said. "That's going to be great."

VAN@NYI: Ekman-Larsson evens game in 1st period

Kyle Palmieri gave New York a 1-0 lead at 11:05 of the first period with a wrist shot from the left face-off circle after a pass from Josh Bailey.
Oliver Ekman-Larsson tied it 1-1 just 39 seconds later at 11:44 with a long wrist shot from the point that seemed to surprise Sorokin, and Boeser gave the Canucks a 2-1 lead with a one-timer from the slot at 12:30 for his 10th goal of the season.
Brock Nelson tied it 2-2 at 14:34 when he finished a 2-on-1 with Anders Lee. It was Nelson's 20th goal of the season.
Barzal gave the Islanders a 3-2 lead at 2:26 of the second period with a one-timer from the left circle on the power play.
The goal came after Horvat thought he scored at 1:46 on a redirection of Dobson's shot from the point, but video review determined Lee interfered with Delia.
But Horvat scored at 15:13 when he one-timed Barzal's feed to give New York a 4-2 lead.
"I don't think anybody would say we played our best to that point," Nelson said. "Being up 4-2, you'd [like] to think we could close it out at home against a team [playing] a back to back. But for whatever reason, [we made] too many mistakes."

VAN@NYI: Aman scores in 2nd period

Nils Aman cut it to 4-3 at 16:04 on a rebound of Phillip Di Giuseppe's wraparound attempt.
Dobson scored on a power play with 49 seconds left for the 6-5 final.
"I saw a lot of mistakes being made," Islanders coach Lane Lambert said. "A lot of individual turnovers. Twenty-three giveaways, you're not going to win a hockey game doing that. There were plays to be made, [but] we didn't make them."
NOTES:Beauvillier was honored by the Islanders with a video tribute during a stoppage in the first period. … It was Pettersson's 22nd three-point game, the most by any Canucks player since he made his NHL debut in the 2018-19 season. … Nelson extended his point streak to nine games (five goals, five assists), an NHL career high.
