McKenna’s mother has priceless reaction to rookie’s 1st NHL game

Gavin McKenna's No. 1 fan couldn’t have been prouder on Tuesday.

The Toronto Maple Leafs rookie’s mother, Krystal, had a heartwarming reaction to seeing her son take the ice for his first NHL game during the team’s season opener against the Montreal Canadiens at Scotiabank Arena.

Sportsnet mic’d up McKenna’s mother along the glass as the No. 1 pick of the 2026 NHL Draft took his rookie lap and warmed up.

Decked out in her son’s No. 92 Maple Leafs jersey, Krystal was joined by one of her daughters and other family and friends.

“What the hell, my son is in the NHL,” Krystal said in the clip. “It’s wild.”

In another clip, the rookie’s mom wiped away tears and complimented her son’s look.

“Oh my God it’s so crazy. He’s like a Ken doll,” she said.

McKenna's former Penn State teammates and his mom all took a selfie with the rookie through the glass.

Sportsnet also mic’d up McKenna during his debut.

The Maple Leafs forward let out a “Woohoo” during introductions before going all business during his first period of play.

Certainly a memorable night for McKenna family.
