Drew Doughty Gretzky Letter

Just a little correspondence between Los Angeles Kings captains.

Current captain Drew Doughty shared a letter he sent to the team's former captain and greatest hockey player to ever live: Wayne Gretzkty.

As you can tell from the handwriting, Doughty was five years old at the time. Seems like young Doughty just wanted to chat, shoot the breeze, maybe get an autograph to add to his impressive and growing collection of NHL legends.

The super-cute and genuine letter doesn't mince words about Doughty's current youth hockey situation.

"We don't keep score, and the coaches always tell us we tied," Doughty wrote, in a tone that can be assumed as frustration.

Next, the obvious part:

"You are my favourite hockey player and the LA Kings is my favourite team," he wrote in full Canadian spelling. "My mommy says I used to cry to stay up late and watch hockey when I was two years old."

Perhaps, the funniest part:

"Also could you please say hi to Kelly Hrudey for me," the little guy wrote, as if he and the Kings goalie were old friends.

Of course, the post script note, which congratulated Gretzky on his 2,500th NHL point and also had this little fun fact:

"Also my grandma was at Parkwood Hospital in London (Ontario). She said one of her nurses went to your wedding."

The kid covered all the bases over two pages. Something tells us he'd have no problem chatting up The Great One in 2026.
