Odelein tribute

The Columbus Blue Jackets honored Lyle Odelein, a day after his passing at the age of 58.

The former NHL defenseman spent two seasons with the Blue Jackets during his 16-year NHL career, serving as the team’s first captain.

Before the Blue Jackets hosted the Utah Mammoth on Saturday, the team honored the Stanley Cup champion with a moment of silence and tribute.

“Lyle is a significant part of our history, serving as our first captain and helping us celebrate our 25th anniversary season last March,” said the Blue Jackets PA announcer during the tribute. “He left an indelible mark in our organization and our community.”

Odelein played 1,056 NHL games, scoring 252 points (50 goals, 202 assists) for the Montreal Canadiens, New Jersey Devils, Phoenix Coyotes, Blue Jackets, Chicago Blackhawks, Dallas Stars, Florida Panthers and Pittsburgh Penguins.

He played 86 playoff games, scoring 18 points (five goals, 13 assists) and won the 1993 Stanley Cup with the Canadiens.
