Getzlaf Selanne

Teemu Selanne had some simple advice during his playing days for old teammate, Anaheim Ducks center Ryan Getzlaf: Shoot the puck!

The former Ducks star, who handed out a team-record 531 assists in 15 seasons with the team, joked in a Twitter video that he told Getzlaf to shoot a lot because he wanted the record to stand. Getzlaf broke it on Thursday when he notched his 532nd assist in a 4-2 win against the Carolina Hurricanes.

"Now you know why I always told you to shoot the puck, because I didn't want you to break my record," said Selanne with a laugh. "Just kidding. Anyway, well done, well-deserved. And Ducks, I have a good feeling about this year, so good luck."

"Teemu is such a friend, such a mentor. It's a special thing, because I played with 'T' so long and the respect I have for him," Getzlaf said.
