The 32-year-old center did not play in a 5-3 win against the Ottawa Senators on Friday because of an upper-body injury; coach Mike Sullivan said before the game Malkin would miss the next two games and could return against the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday.
Malkin has 55 points (14 goals, 41 assists) in 50 games this season.
Goalie Matt Murray is expected to start for the Penguins, who will try for their third straight win after going 1-4-0 in their previous five.
Goalie Garret Sparks will start for the Maple Leafs, who are 2-4-1 in their past seven games and have scored two goals or fewer in three of their past four.

Penguins forward Jake Guentzel scored twice against the Senators and has 15 points (10 goals, five assists) in his past 12 games.
Maple Leafs forward Mitchell Marner has seven points (five goals, two assists) in his past eight games.
