Devils top Flyers to end 10-game losing streak

NEWARK, N.J. -- Taylor Hall and Adam Henrique each scored two goals to help the New Jersey Devils end a 10-game losing streak with a 6-2 win against the Philadelphia Flyers at Prudential Center on Thursday.
Kyle Palmieri had a goal and an assist, Joseph Blandisi scored, and Keith Kinkaid made 17 saves for the Devils (26-31-12). New Jersey was 0-8-2 in its past 10 games, the longest losing streak in the NHL this season.
The Devils have won all three games against the Flyers this season, outscoring them 14-3.

"Sometimes there's just those matchups, and games against the Flyers is one of them for us," Henrique said. "Maybe we could have played them a few times in this stretch. I don't know if it's anything specific, but every time we play them, we play a solid game, start to finish."
Michael Del Zotto and Brayden Schenn scored for the Flyers (32-30-8). Steve Mason, who made 23 saves in a 4-0 win against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday, left the game because of cramping after Hall's goal 1:33 into the third period. He allowed four goals on 23 shots.
The Flyers are six points behind the Toronto Maple Leafs for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference with 12 games remaining.
"We didn't win enough of the races, enough of the battles," Flyers coach Dave Hakstol said. "That's the bottom line."
Hall took advantage of a bad line change by the Flyers and scored on a breakaway to give the Devils a 4-2 lead.
"It's one of those things you practice," Hall said. "It was huge that the ice was fresh and pucks weren't bouncing. Sometimes at the end of a period you shy away from doing moves like that. I don't like to see a guy hurt, but it's fun to see it go in."
Mason remained down for several minutes after the goal before being replaced by Michal Neuvirth, who made four saves on five shots.

"We gave up that fourth goal; that's one we can't give up," Hakstol said. "I won't get into the particulars on it, but that put us in a pretty deep hole and we weren't able to generate a whole lot. We had a couple of scoring chances but no real push once we got down by two."
Henrique scored his second of the game 4:08 into the third period for a 5-2 lead, and Hall scored into an empty net at 15:21 to make it 6-2.
The Devils took a 3-1 lead in the second period on goals by Henrique at 5:50 and Blandisi on the power play at 9:40. Schenn scored at 11:13 to make it 3-2.
Del Zotto scored his fifth of the season at 17:00 of the first period to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead. Palmieri scored his 23rd at 18:11 to tie it 1-1.

Goal of the game

Hall needed to retrieve a new stick at the bench before breaking in and scoring on a one-handed attempt on Mason for his first goal of the game.

Save of the game

Kinkaid made a glove save on Wayne Simmonds during a Flyers power play 13:59 into the second period and with the Devils holding a 3-2 lead.
"He's one of the best in front with screens and little movements," Kinkaid said. "He likes to kick it back, go around the goalie. I just wanted to stay with him, and luckily the puck found the glove."

Highlight of the game

Del Zotto completed a tic-tac-toe passing play with Jakub Voracek and Claude Giroux to give the Flyers the lead in the first period.

Devils center Travis Zajac had two assists, two takeaways and was plus-4, finishing 9-of-16 on faceoffs (56 percent).

Flyers forward Jordan Weal, who did not play Wednesday because of a lower-body injury, returned to the lineup. Forward Nick Cousins (upper body) did not play. ... The Devils are 17-6-3 against the Flyers in the regular season since the 2011-12 season.
