Amerks Update Spotlight Alexander Nylander October 18, 2016

The Rochester Americans opened their season this week with a busy three-games-in-three-nights stretch, going 1-2-0-0.

The opener went about as well as you could have hoped with a 5-4 win at home over Hershey. Cole Schneider, Nick Baptiste and Cal O'Reilly combined for eight points and rookie Eric Cornel scored his first professional goal in the third period, which proved to be the game winner.

Schneider had a four-point night of his own with two goals and two assists. He opened the scoring 45 seconds in on the power play. Alex Nylander picked up his first point in an Amerks jersey with the primary assist. Linus Ullmark made 25 saves to earn the victory.
After recording a goal and an assist in the game, Baptiste earned his first career call-up. He could make his NHL debut for the Sabres on Thursday in Vancouver.

RCH 1 - SYR 4

On Saturday, the Amerks were in Syracuse to kick off a home-and-home set against the Crunch. Justin Bailey scored in the third period, but it wasn't enough as Syracuse won 4-1. The Amerks power play went 0-for-4 while Ullmark stopped 40 of 44 shots.

SYR 6 - RCH 3

Syracuse swept the series on Sunday with a 6-3 win at The BlueCross Arena. Nylander posted a goal and an assist to lead Rochester on the score sheet. Evan Rodrigues and Tyson Strachan also scored.
Rodrigues opened the scoring, but Syracuse then scored four-straight goals to take control of the game. The power play woes continued as the Amerks were unable to convert on any of their seven chances while on the man advantage. In his Amerks debut, Jason Kasdorf made 24 saves on 30 shots.
