Sept. 24: NHL Preseason Roundup

The Florida Panthers scored six goals against Andrei Vasilevskiy and defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 6-3 in a preseason game at BB&T Center on Tuesday.

Vasilevskiy, voted the Vezina Trophy winner last season as the best goalie in the NHL, made 18 saves.
Aleksander Barkov had two goals and an assist, Jonathan Huberdeau had a goal and an assist, and Evgenii Dadonov and Aaron Ekblad each had two assists for the Panthers. Frank Vatrano, Dominic Toninato and Denis Malgin also scored for Florida.
Anthony Cirelli and Alexander Volkov each had a goal and an assist, and Mikhail Sergachev scored for Tampa Bay.
Barkov (4:55) and Huberdeau (5:14) scored 19 seconds apart in the second period to give the Panthers a 4-2 lead.
Sergei Bobrovsky made 12 saves on 14 shots in 31:08 for Florida. Chris Driedger made seven saves on eight shots in relief.

McDavid debuts in Oilers loss to Coyotes

Connor McDavid was held without a point in his preseason debut for the Edmonton Oilers, a 4-2 loss to the Arizona Coyotes at Rogers Place.
Lawson Crouse, Michael Bunting, Michael Grabner and Derek Stepan scored for the Coyotes, and Adin Hill made 38 saves.
McDavid, who tore the PCL in his left knee in Edmonton's season finale against the Calgary Flames on April 6, had two shots on goal in 20:38 of ice time.
"I felt a little rusty, but that's to be expected in the first preseason game," McDavid said. "It was nice to be out there for sure."
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (shorthanded) and Riley Sheahan scored for the Oilers. Mike Smith allowed two goals on 17 shots through the second period for Edmonton, and Mikko Koskinen made 13 saves in relief.
Sheahan got the Oilers to within 3-2 at 10:36 of the third, but Stepan scored at 12:43 to make it 4-2.
Arizona was 0-for-5 on the power play. Edmonton was 0-for-2.

Kravtsov scores for Rangers in win against Islanders

Vitali Kravtsov scored his first goal with the New York Rangers, and Artemi Panarin scored twice in a 3-1 preseason win against the New York Islanders at Madison Square Garden.
Kravtsov, the No. 9 pick of the 2018 NHL Draft, gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead at 2:07 of the second period. It was their first lead of the preseason.
Henrik Lundqvist made 13 saves in 30:06. Alexandar Georgiev made 16 saves in relief.
Jordan Eberle scored a third-period goal to make it 2-1, and Thomas Greiss made 27 saves for the Islanders.

Stars use special teams to defeat Blues

The Dallas Stars scored shorthanded and on the power play in a 2-1 preseason win against the St. Louis Blues at Enterprise Center.
Jason Dickinson gave the Stars a 1-0 lead with a shorthanded goal at 7:56 of the first period, and John Klingberg made it 2-0 with the man-advantage at 16:36 of the second.
Ryan O'Reilly scored with 4:43 remaining in the third period, and Jake Allen made 16 saves for the Blues.
Landon Bow played the first two periods for the Stars and made 15 saves. Jake Oettinger made 13 saves in relief.
St. Louis was 0-for-8 on the power play, Dallas was 1-for-5.
Blues forward Ivan Barbashev left the game in the second period after being hit by teammate Roman Polak.

Rittich, Flames shut out Jets

David Rittich made 20 saves for the Calgary Flames in a 2-0 preseason win against the Winnipeg Jets at Scotiabank Saddledome.
Sean Monahan scored a power-play goal at 13:37 of the second period, and Sam Bennett scored 33 seconds later.
Eric Comrie played the first two periods for the Jets and saved 18 of 20 shots. Mikhail Berdin made 13 saves in relief.
Jets defenseman Josh Morrissey did not play in the third period.

Silfverberg, Guhle help Ducks defeat Sharks

Jakob Silfverberg and Brendan Guhle each had a goal and an assist for the Anaheim Ducks in a 4-1 preseason win against the San Jose Sharks at Honda Center.
Andreas Martinsen and Derek Grant (shorthanded, empty net) scored for the Ducks, and John Gibson made 31 saves.
Jonny Brodzinski scored for the Sharks, and Aaron Dell made 33 saves on 36 shots.
Silfverberg gave Anaheim a 2-0 lead at 14:17 of the first period, and Guhle made it 3-0 at 1:10 of the second.
