Penguins go for seventh straight win

The Pittsburgh Penguins will look to extend their winning streak to seven games when they visit the New Jersey Devils on Sunday (7 p.m. ET; SN1, SNE, SNP, MSG+, ATTSN-PT, ESPN+, NHL LIVE). A victory would give Pittsburgh a run of at least seven games for the first time since 2018-19 (8-0-0). Captain Sidney Crosby has scored 16 points (three goals, 13 assists) in his past 10 games for the Penguins (16-8-5), who are 11-2-1 in their past 14. Pittsburgh has outscored the opposition 23-8 during their six-game streak. Defenseman Damon Severson has three assists in a three-game point streak for the Devils (10-14-5), who have lost five in a row and are 2-9-2 in their past 13. -- Mike G. Morreale, staff writer

Lowry tries again for first win as Jets coach

Dave Lowry has his second attempt at his first win as coach of the Winnipeg Jets when they host the St. Louis Blues (3 p.m. ET; TSN3, BSMW, ESPN+, NHL LIVE). Lowry, named coach Friday after Paul Maurice resigned, lost his debut, 5-2 to the Washington Capitals a few hours later. Winnipeg (13-11-5) is 0-2-1 in its past three games and has lost four of five. The Blues (17-8-5) enter with a seven-game point streak (5-0-2) and are coming off a home-and-home sweep of the Dallas Stars. Golden Knights showing resilience

I covered the Vegas Golden Knights during their 3-2 shootout win at the New York Rangers on Friday and saw why they're in position to sweep a four-game road trip with a victory against the New York Islanders on Sunday (2 p.m. ET; TVAS, MSG+, ATTSN-RM, ESPN+, NHL LIVE). Vegas was outshot 11-4 in the second period, down 2-1 and on weary legs playing consecutive nights. That was when a visiting writer told me about how often the Golden Knights have discovered their second wind for the third period. They did Friday, outshooting the Rangers 10-2 and earning their fourth win (4-8-0) when trailing after two, tied with the Columbus Blue Jackets for most in the NHL. The resilience is partly why Vegas (19-11-0) has won four in a row and seven of eight, two points behind the Anaheim Ducks for first in the eight-team Pacific Division. It has a chance at returning home for a showdown against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday with tremendous momentum. Golden Knights goalie Robin Lehner will play his first game against the Islanders since he was a finalist for the 2019 Vezina Trophy given to the best in the NHL at the position, when he played for New York. Islanders forward Cal Clutterbuck is expected to play his 900th NHL game.
St. Louis Blues at Winnipeg Jets (3 p.m. ET; TSN3, BSMW, ESPN+, NHL LIVE)
It's the start of a three-game road trip for the Blues in Winnipeg, where with a victory coach Craig Berube can become the seventh person in NHL history to win 200 games as a coach and play at least 1,000. The Jets look to salvage the finale of a three-game homestand after they were outscored 9-4 in losing to the Buffalo Sabres and Washington Capitals.
Pittsburgh Penguins at New Jersey Devils (7 p.m. ET; SN1, SNE, SNP, MSG+, ATTSN-PT, ESPN+, NHL LIVE)
Evan Rodrigues has scored five points (two goals, three assists) in four games for Pittsburgh since forward Jake Guentzel sustained an upper-body injury, including a goal in a 3-2 win against the Sabres on Friday. New Jersey has five players in NHL COVID-19 protocol: defensemen Ryan Graves, P.K. Subban and Christian Jaros, and forwards Nico Hischier and Jesper Boqvist. Forward Jesper Bratt has an illness unrelated to COVID-19 and may not play.
Los Angeles Kings at Washington Capitals (7 p.m. ET; NBCSWA, BSW, ESPN+, NHL LIVE)
Los Angeles (13-11-5) is 3-1-1 in its past five games. Anze Kopitar is one assist from tying Wayne Gretzky (672) for second in Kings history. Washington forward Alex Ovechkin is one power-play goal from passing Dave Andreychuk (274) for most in NHL history. Center Philip Danault of the Kings and forward T.J. Oshie of the Capitals each was placed in NHL COVID-19 protocol Sunday.
