NEWARK, N.J. -- Kyle Turris scored with 1:25 remaining in overtime to give the Nashville Predators a 4-3 win against the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center on Thursday.

Turris took a pass from Mattias Ekholm behind his own net and skated up the ice into the Devils zone before using Andy Greene as a screen and scoring on a wrist shot.
"It's so hard to beat a goalie clean nowadays on a shot where he sees things, so I just tried to use their defenseman as a screen and, for that split second, it caused the goalie to pause and allowed me to pick a corner," Turris said. "I like to use speed 3-on-3 because the defense is going backwards and if you can attack with speed, it's hard on the defender."

Nico Hischier scored two goals, Kyle Palmieri had three assists, and Keith Kinkaid made 32 saves for New Jersey (4-2-1), which has lost three straight (0-2-1) after winning four in a row to begin the season. Taylor Hall had two assists to extend his point streak to six games (one goal, nine assists).
Viktor Arvidsson and Filip Forsberg scored, and Juuse Saros made 33 saves for Nashville (8-2-0).
"I thought our guys showed up and played hard," Predators coach Peter Laviolette said. "I liked the fact we kept fighting back in that game. Specialty teams were working to try to get back on track and came through in the third period and won us a hockey game."

Forsberg tied it 3-3 with a power-play goal at 13:40 of the third period. Saros stopped Blake Coleman on a shorthanded breakaway 28 seconds before Forsberg scored short side on a one-timer.
"I was happy to stop that, and obviously for us to score right after," Saros said.
Said Coleman, "It was a pretty good save, but I need to find a way to put that in and put the game out of reach right there."
Damon Severson scored his second goal in as many games on a slap shot from the point to give the Devils a 1-0 lead at 2:58 of the first period.

Yannick Weber tied it 1-1 on a shot from the right circle that beat Kinkaid glove side at 14:40.
Hischier gave the Devils a 2-1 lead after redirecting a pass from Hall on the power play 19:01. New Jersey has scored a power-play goal in each of its first seven games of the season for the first time in its history (9-for-31).
"It was a step in the right direction from what we had talked about prior to our last few games," Devils coach John Hynes said. "It was more the identity we want to play with, more of the compete we want to play with. That's what we talked to our guys about, getting back to our game."
Arvidsson tied it 2-2 at 13:06 of the second period, but Hischier scored 40 seconds later on a redirection in the slot to give the Devils a 3-2 lead. It was the third career two-goal game for Hischier and first since Dec. 27, 2017.
"You could see [Hischier] had a little more jump in his step," Hynes said. "He was really tenacious. He was winning a lot of his puck battles and he's finally getting rewarded for going to the net. It was nice to see him play the way he did."

They said it

"[Saros] comes up big for us every night. He makes saves like that (against Coleman) to keep us in a game or keep us in a lead. He's such a good goalie. He and [Pekka] Rinne are two of the very best." -- Predators forward Kyle Turris

NSH@NJD: Saros stops Coleman on shorthanded breakaway

"I think we took a step in the right direction and had more of a complete team effort, which is what we talked about, and played more to our identity. We still need a little bit more from some guys, a little bit more to be able to find a way to win the game, but I think if you continue to play better and build on it, we will." -- Devils coach John Hynes
