First responders join 2020 Draft Lottery show

Frontline workers in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic were well represented at the 2020 NHL Draft Lottery on Friday night.

Each team that did not make the Stanley Cup Qualifiers was represented by a medical worker or first responder via video call at the event, broadcast on NHL Network.

Erik Evans, a Firefighter from Harrison Township was there for the Detroit Red Wings. The Anaheim Ducks were represented by Emily White, a nurse from Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, California.

The New Jersey Devils had Travis Tuytjens, an EMT from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital pulling for them while the Los Angeles Kings sent Dr. Jacob Hattenbach from Kaweah Delta Medical Center near Fresno. Nurse Kimberly Sweeney from Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center was there for the Buffalo Sabres.

Kelly Cochran, a medic with Ottawa Parademic Service represented for the Ottawa Senators. She did a pre-draft interview with the Network's Kathryn Tappen. Cochran and her husband, also a first responder, have been living out of their home for 10 weeks while fighting COVID-19, finally returning on Wednesday.

While her team didn't get the top pick, which is still to be determined, the Senators did end up with the third and fifth picks in the 2020 NHL Draft.
