The Florida Panthers head equipment manager, who spent last season as an assistant with the Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins, got to see his name on the Cup Friday.
Richards, a Wilkes-Barre, Pa. native spent 14 years with the Penguins before moving south this season to become the NHL's youngest head equipment manager at age 33.
He got to cradle the Cup at the
NHL's Centennial Fan Arena
at Fort Lauderdale Beach Promenade and posed for some family pictures, which also proudly displayed his Penguins championship ring.
While all fans in attendance at the event got to see the Cup, Richards was the only one allowed to lift it on Friday.
