Derek Dorsett

Vancouver Canucks forward Derek Dorsett needs cervical fusion surgery and is out indefinitely.

Dorsett is expected to resume his NHL career but there is no timeframe for his recovery, the Canucks said Monday.
"The decision to perform surgery was made after a thorough review of our options including non-surgical treatment and rehabilitation," Canucks general manager Jim Benning said. "Derek, our Canucks medical team and Dr. [Robert] Watkins believe that surgery offers the best outcome both for his career and long-term health. Derek is an important member of our team and we are optimistic for a full recovery."
Dorsett, 29, has one goal and four points in 14 games. He's missed the past seven.
In nine NHL seasons with the Columbus Blue Jackets, New York Rangers and Canucks, Dorsett has 44 goals and 118 points in 495 games.
