Stars rally in 3rd, complete comeback in overtime

Roope Hintz scored at 2:51 of overtime to give the Dallas Stars a 5-4 victory against the Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit on Friday.

Hintz deflected a Joe Pavelski pass past Alex Nedeljkovic on the power play.
"It wasn't one of my fastest shots, but it got over the line, so I'll take it," Hintz said.
Jason Robertson tied it 4-4 for the Stars with 1:03 left in the third period.
"We've got to find a way to finish games like that, especially at home," Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin said.

Robertson, Hintz and Esa Lindell each had a goal and an assist, and Pavelski had three assists for Dallas (20-16-2), which won 5-4 at the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday. Braden Holtby made 24 saves.
"We're trying to win games 2-1 or 3-2, because we're not a team built to win 5-4," Stars coach Rick Bowness said. "We will happily take five goals every night, but we can't keep giving up four."
Tyler Bertuzzi had a goal and two assists for Detroit (18-17-6), which has lost five of seven (2-2-3). Nedeljkovic made 27 saves.
"We played too well not to win that game tonight," Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said. "We did some very good things, but we made two mental mistakes at the end."
Ryan Suter gave Dallas a 1-0 lead at 12:03 of the first period when he scored from a sharp angle, but Robby Fabbri tied it 1-1 23 seconds later, taking a Bertuzzi pass and skating in on Holtby to score on a deke at 12:26.
Joel Kiviranta put the Stars ahead 2-1 at 5:50 of the second period when he scored through a screen. It was his first goal of the season in his 31st game.
"I would like to say I saw that tiny spot and aimed for it," Kiviranta said. "It is just nice to get a goal and help win a game."
Pius Suter tied it 2-2 at 7:34 with a wrist shot off a pass from Bertuzzi.
Larkin put Detroit in front 3-2 at 9:16 when he cut through two Dallas defenders, drove to the net, and put the puck in off of Holtby.
"A couple of their guys were trying to tag up for a delayed offside, so I got some speed and beat a couple of guys," Larkin said. "It opened up in the middle, and I kind of flipped it at the net and got lucky when it went in."

Lindell tied it 3-3 with 1:13 left in the period when his shot from the bottom of the left face-off circle went under Nedeljkovic's pad.
"I didn't expect that to go in," Lindell said. "I didn't know I had scored until the puck bounced off the padding in the net."
Bertuzzi gave the Red Wings a 4-3 lead with a power-play goal at 13:46 of the third period when his pass deflected in off Lindell in the goal crease, but Robertson tied it on a rebound with Holtby pulled for the extra attacker.
"I'm really proud of the guys for this one," Bowness said. "They went ahead on a fluky power-play goal in the third, but we fought back. We needed all 60 minutes to tie it, but we got there and won it in overtime."
