Scott Darling made 22 saves for the Hurricanes (6-6-2), who lost their fourth consecutive game (0-3-1) and were shut out for the first time this season.
"We always try to play the same way," Hurricanes forward Justin Williams said. "We had a decent start but we've got to keep pushing. At the same time, we let them get to two and get to three, and it makes it a lot more tough."
The Hurricanes have scored six goals during their losing streak after scoring six in the two games previous (both wins).
"Tonight was probably … the game I didn't like the most out of all of them," Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour said. "There wasn't a lot going on for either team, but we've got to find ways to put the puck in the net, and that's been the challenge."
Hunt took a pass from Haula in front of Darling and scored his first goal of the season at 14:11 of the first period to give Vegas a 1-0 lead.
