Hurricanes team scope

The Carolina Hurricanes did not hold a morning skate. They have points in six consecutive games (4-0-2), their longest streak of the season, after defeating the Nashville Predators 4-2 at PNC Arena on Saturday. Forward Jeff Skinner scored two goals in the victory, including one late in the second period when he got to the net and fought to get a rebound past Predators goaltender Juuse Saros. "I thought we were dangerous," coach Bill Peters said Saturday. "I thought we had some really good looks. I liked the way we managed the puck. I thought we played very well. We got contributions from all four lines and started the game on time … I thought the guys were ready to play." The Hurricanes' game in Philadelphia is the first of a four-game road trip. They are 9-17-8 away from PNC Arena and their nine road wins are tied with the Colorado Avalanche for the fewest in the NHL. "We've got to put a couple together in a row on the road and it's been a little harder for us there," goaltender Eddie Lack said. "It's going to be a fun, challenging week coming up."

Flyers team scope

The Philadelphia Flyers and Hurricanes each have 72 points, seven behind the Toronto Maple Leafs for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference. Goalie Steve Mason will start for the Flyers. Mason left a 6-2 loss to the New Jersey Devils on Thursday 1:29 into the third period because of cramping in his legs from dehydration. "It's something that … I've struggled with it, with sweating so much, and sometimes it's hard to keep up with it," he said. It will be Mason's ninth start in his past 10 games and he's relishing the playing time. "I feel great," he said. "Feel like my game is in a good position. Not worried about the workload at all." The Flyers still have some leftover anger from their loss Thursday and know that since the Hurricanes played Saturday, they could have an advantage. "We have to be ready especially on the back to back," forward Brayden Schenn said. "We're the fresher team so we have no excuse tonight."
