Fox-Norris

Adam Fox learned of his Norris Trophy win from one of his heroes.

The New York Rangers defenseman was presented as the best defenseman in the NHL by Hockey Hall of Famer and Rangers legend Brian Leetch on Tuesday.

Fox, 23, grew up watching Leetch as a Rangers fan in Jericho, New York then became the first New York defenseman to earn the award since Leetch did so in 1997.
"Congratulations Adam," Leetch said as he was addressing Fox in a video posted to Twitter. "I know as being a young Ranger[s player] myself coming from Connecticut and having family and friends at the games, I felt very fortunate to have that experience. I know you growing up even closer to Madison Square Garden … it must be quite a similar experience, and it was nice to watch the last couple of years your family and friends being a part of your journey."
Fox earned 40 first-place votes and 743 points, finishing ahead of second-place Cale Makar of the Colorado Avalanche and Victor Hedman of the Tampa Bay Lightning, who was third. He also received a slew of congratulations from his Rangers teammates in a video and on social media.

Fox wasn't the only award winner to have a Hall of Famer introduce him. Marc-Andre Fleury, who received the first Vezina Trophy win of his illustrious career, learned of his accomplishment from long-time New Jersey Devils goalie and fellow Quebec native Martin Brodeur.
