"I got one decision to make yet here after I have a few conversations and that will be Barberio," said Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar. "Looks like he is getting close and ready to play, so we will make a decision on him before the game tonight."
The Montreal, Quebec, native has 13 points (three goals, 10 assists) in 44 games this campaign. If he does play, he is expected to be part of the third defensive pairing, playing with either Mark Alt or David Warsofsky.
"[Barberio is] another more experienced guy, puck-moving guy. His legs feel great, he feels like he is skating fine," Bednar said. "The ability to get in and out of our zone under pressure, No. 1. He adds a little offense to our lineup, makes good outlet passes, first passes trying to get our forwards moving up the ice with possession, so that's been the strength of his game all year. Hopefully he can jump back in and continue where he left off."
Goaltender Jonathan Bernier did not participate in the optional morning skate, but he is expected to start in net for Colorado.
Below is the Avalanche's projected lineup. All forward combinations and defensive pairings are subject to change.
