Anders Lee was announced as the New York Islanders nominee for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy on Tuesday afternoon.
The Islanders' captain was nominated by the team for the King Clancy, which is awarded annually to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community.
Per the NHL
:
The nominees were selected by their respective NHL teams. The winner will be chosen by a committee of senior NHL executives led by Commissioner Gary Bettman and Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly.
The first-place finisher will receive a $25,000 donation to benefit a charity or charities of his choice. The two runners-up each will receive a $5,000 donation to benefit a charity or charities of their choice.

This is Lee's third King Clancy nomination in the past four seasons, which is reflective of his work with organizations like Jam Kancer in the Kan, which has raised over $300K for orgaizations dedicated to providing support to families affected by pediatric cancer.
"There are athletes that have a presence and since we've made him captain, it's just grown," Head Coach Barry Trotz said of Lee. "Since we've made him captain, you've seen the growth and why he would be nominated for this award. From a captain standpoint he's the last person to think about himself, he's team first, other players, families and all that and the community. He loves the Island, he loves helping people and that's just sort of in his DNA and that's something that is required in being a good captain, in my mind anyways. You have that DNA that you care about not only your teammates, but also your community and your organization and he does."
Two Islanders have won the King Clancy,
Bryan Trottier in 1989
and
Doug Weight in 2011
