A look back at Islanders who've played for the Memorial Cup

Mathew Barzal gets set to compete for the 2017 Memorial Cup on Saturday when the Western Hockey League champion Seattle Thunderbirds face off against the Erie Otters. 

Barzal, who plays round-robin games on Saturday at 3 p.m. vs Erie, Sunday at 7 p.m. vs Windsor and Tuesday at 7 p.m. vs Saint John's, is continuing the legacy of New York Islanders' prospects at the prestigious tournament.

NewYorkIslanders.com looks back at past Islanders who have won the Memorial Cup, as well as current Islanders who've played for it. 

Michael Dal Colle and Mitchell Vande Sompel - Oshawa Generals - 2015 

STATS: Dal Colle scored 2G, 3A in four games with the Oshawa Genreals
Vande Sompel recorded 2A in four games with the Oshawa Generals 

RESULT: Won 2015 Memorial Cup

NOTES: Dal Colle was an alternate captain on the team and was named to the MC All-Star Team (Offense)

Casey Cizikas - Mississauga St. Michael's Majors - 2011 

STATS: Cizikas scored 2G, 1A in five games for the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors (host team).

RESULT: Lost in the Final

NOTES: Cizikas was Mississauga's team captain. 

Travis Hamonic - Brandon Wheat Kings - 2010 

STATS: Hamonic scored 1G,2A in five games with Brandon Wheat Kings (host team).

RESULT: Lost in the Final

NOTES: Hamonic was named to the Memorial Cup All-Star Team (Defense)

Brent Sutter - Red Deer Rebels - 2001 

STATS: Sutter coached the Red Deer Rebels to a 3-1 record en route to winning the 2001 Memorial Cup. 

RESULT: Won 2001 Memorial Cup

NOTES: Sutter was also the General Manager of the Rebels. 

Mark Fitzpatrick - Medicine Hat Tigers - 1987, 1988 

STATS: Fitzpatrick won back-to-back Memorial Cup championships (1987, 88) with the Medicine Hat Tigers. Medicine Hat posted an 8-2 record over the two tournaments. 

RESULT: Won 1987 and 1988 Memorial Cups

NOTES: Fitzpatrick won back-to-back "Most Outstanding Goaltender" awards.

Clark Gillies - Regina Pats - 1974

STATS: Regina went 2-1-0 to win the 1974 Memorial Cup. 

RESULT: Won 1974 Memorial Cup.

NOTES: Gillies reportedly had three fights at the Memorial Cup tournament.
