It was the day that Las Vegas had been building towards for years.
After never having a major league professional sports franchise of its own in its 111-year history, Las Vegas was shuttled into the big leagues by receiving an NHL franchise on June 22, 2016.

Relive the best images from that day that will go down in Golden Knights history as the date the franchise was born.
The highlight of the day was when team owner Bill Foley took the stage after Las Vegas was awarded an NHL franchise.
Foley was welcomed by fellow team owner Jeremy Jacobs of the Boston Bruins.
Foley was also welcomed by NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman.

A large contingent of NHL league officials and media were assembled to witness the historic event.
It's been said that a picture is worth 1,000 words. In this case, it might as been one million words as Las Vegas took center of the stage in a manner unlike any other in the city's history.
Foley followed up the historic press conference by attending the 2016 NHL Awards at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino later that night.
At the NHL Awards was how the memorable day ended for Las Vegas' NHL franchise.
