Flyers head coach John Tortorella said after the second day of the team's training camp that it usually takes four days of camp before the discrepancies in conditioning in stamina become evident.

The grueling pace of camp continued on Day 4. There were even quite a few players who took part in Saturday's preseason opener against Boston who were right back on the ice for a 9 a.m. scrimmage on Sunday, followed by an on-ice practice and conditioning skate plus an off-ice workout. Players who appeared in both Saturday's game and Sunday's first scrimmage included Morgan Frost, Noah Cates, Owen Tippett, Tanner Laczynski, Egor Zamula and goaltender Felix Sandström.
In terms of the progression camp so far, the daily activities have all been skating-intensive (as Tortorella told payers before camp to expect):
Day 1 (Sept. 22): 30-minute skating test: laps, goal-line-to-goal-line "suicides".
Day 2 (Sept 23): Two scrimmage groups, two on-ice and off-ice practices plus conditioning skates at the end.
Day 3 (Sept 24): Morning skate for game night roster, 7 p.m. game. Full practice for the non-game group.
Day 4 (Sept. 25): Two scrimmage groups, two on-ice and off-ice practices plus conditioning skates at the end.
Injury Updates
Carter Hart was involved in a collision at the net during the Flyers non-game group's practice on Saturday. He is officially day-to-day with a lower-body injury.
Cam Atkinson is day-to-day with an upper-body injury. He participated in the practice following Sunday's second scrimmage.
Artem Anisimov is day-to-day with a lower-body injury. He blocked a shot in the first period of Saturday's game and briefly went up the tunnel.
All three players were held out of Sunday's scrimmages.
Scrimmage 1
In the early scrimmage, Team Orange (Team 1) came back from an early 1-0 deficit to defeat Team White (Team 3) by a 3-1 score. Team Orange got off to a slow start in the first half the game but controlled the second half of the game. The rosters were as follows:
Team White took a 1-0 lead in the first half of the running-clock scrimmage. Tye McSorely blocked an Ivan Provorov shot and Tyler Savard scored on a partial breakaway. As the scrimmage progressed, the trio of James van Riemsdyk, Morgan Frost and Travis Konecny. JVR knotted the score at 1-1 after taking a pass from Frost -- who'd hit the post earlier in the shift -- and firing the puck home. After Max Willman gave Team Orange a 2-0 lead on a penalty shot goal, Frost buried a van Riemsdyk feed on a 2-on-1 transition rush.
Samuel Ersson and Jonathan Lemieux shared goaltending duties for Orange. Felix Sandström and Tyler White were in goal for Team White.
On the White side, Noah Cates and Owen Tippett were linemates with Tanner Laczynski. Regular defense partners Travis Sanheim and Ramus Ristolainen were paired as a duo. On Team Orange, Ivan Provorov and Egor Zamula rotated pairings with Tony DeAngelo, with Zamula playing the right side when with Provorov and left defense when he was out with DeAngelo.
The biggest hit of the game was a crunching hit by Team White's Nicolas Deslauriers on Team Orange defenseman Kevin Connauton behind the Orange net. Deslauriers gave Connauton a little tap with the stick after finishing the check. Connauton felt the effects but was OK. During the first day of scrimmages on Friday, Deslauriers stapled Cam York to the end boards. York had media availability on Sunday and said he felt fine but still had a little soreness as a souvenir from his encounter with Delauriers two days earlier.
Scrimmage 2
Team White (Team 2) defeated Team Orange (Team 3) via shootout, 2-1, in the second scrimmage. Jackson Cates, listed on the Orange roster but "traded" to the White side with Anisimov unavailable, scored the lone goal of the shootout.
The scrimmage was scoreless until the latter part of the second half. A deflection goal by Theo Rochette gave the Orange side a 1-0 lead but was matched at the other end shortly thereafter by a Zayde Wisdom tip-in.
The second scrimmage got a little feisty in the second half. Team Orange left winger Antoine Roussel, battling throughout the scrimmage with Colin Felix, delivered a slash to Felix's glove that sent the defenseman to the bench, shaking his hand in pain. Shortly before that, Team Orange defenseman Adam Ginning gave Alexis Gendron some rough treatment at the other end of the ice and they exchanged shoves.
With Atkinson held out of the scrimmage, defenseman Nick Seeler moved up front and played left wing on a line with Scott Laughton and Wade Allison. On the other side, Kevin Hayes centered Olle Lycksell and Charlie Gerard.
