Flyers Host Islanders in Rookie Game on September 13

by @NHLFlyers

The Philadelphia Flyers will host a rookie game against the New York Islanders on Wednesday, Sept. 13 at 7 PM at the Wells Fargo Center. The game will be free and open to the public; however, a ticket is required for admission. Parking in the Wells Fargo Center lots will also be free of charge.

"We're extremely excited about the upcoming season and the terrific young talent in our organization," said Flyers president Paul Holmgren. "Playing this game at the Wells Fargo Center is a great opportunity to open the event to the community and give our fans a chance to see some potential future Flyers in action."

This is the second time the Flyers have held a rookie game in the club's home arena. The last occasion was six years ago on Sept. 15, 2011, when the club hosted the Washington Capitals rookies and earned a 3-2 win in front of over 10,000 fans.

The game marks the unofficial end to Rookie Camp and often features many of the Flyers and Islanders recent draft picks battling in front of management and fans before each team's main camp opens. A complete roster of Flyers players scheduled to attend Rookie Camp can be found HERE.

The game will be a rematch of last year's contest, which the Flyers won by a 4-0 score at the Islanders practice facility. It was the third straight rookie game that the Flyers have shut out their opponent. The game featured Ivan Provorov and Travis Konecny, who both went on to make the club's opening night roster.

Additional participants in Flyers rookie games of the past include Claude Giroux, Sean Couturier, Scott Laughton, Shayne Gostisbehere, Sam Morin and Travis Sanheim.
