The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that the club has agreed to terms with defenseman David Jiricek (pronounced YEER-ih-check) on a two-year contract extension worth an average annual value of $1.5M, according to General Manager Daniel Briere.
Jiricek, 22 (11/28/2003), was acquired by the Flyers from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for forward Bobby Brink at the trade deadline and has since appeared in 10 games with Philadelphia’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. He has recorded two goals and 10 points with the Phantoms, matching his output from his time with the Iowa Wild, where he tallied 10 points in 24 games prior to the trade.
The 6-foot-4, 204-pound defenseman was originally selected by Columbus in the first round (6th overall) of the 2022 NHL Draft. He has appeared in 84 NHL games with the Blue Jackets (2022–25) and Wild (2024–26), recording two goals and 11 assists for 13 points.
Jiricek has played parts of four seasons in the AHL suiting up with the Cleveland Monsters (2022–25), Iowa Wild (2024–26), and Lehigh Valley Phantoms (2025-26). Across 149 AHL games, he has registered 19 goals and 68 assists for 87 points.
A native of Klatovy, Czechia, Jiricek has represented his country internationally on five occasions, including the IIHF Under-18 World Championship (2021), three IIHF World Junior Championships (2021, 2022, 2023), and the IIHF World Championship (2022). He helped Czechia capture a silver medal at the 2023 World Junior Championship and was named the tournament’s Best Defenseman and selected to the All-Star Team.
The Flyers host the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday at Xfinity Mobile Arena at 7:00 p.m. The game can be seen on NBCSP and heard on 97.5 The Fanatic.
