Hampus Lindholm opened the scoring at 2:28 of the first period for his eighth goal of the season. Hampus Lindholm
On neutralizing Edmonton's offense
We just try to stick to what we do good out there. Play to our strength. That's when our group is successful.
On Gibson's presence
We have confidence in both of our goalies. Gibby has been playing unreal. He's a world-class goalie. Everyone knows that. You're comfortable when he's in there and he's comfortable with us in front of him. It was nice to see him back in net.
Josh Manson
On scoring first
It was big. The first goal is always big for a team. You start to get your momentum and build from there. We knew we'd have to come out and have a hot start and try to assert some dominance here at home.
On playing with a lead throughout the game
It's definitely a little bit easier. You're not trying to force goals. The big thing is sticking to our game plan. If you're playing the right way and sticking to our structure, goals will come. Getting that one to get a head start gives you a little bit of a cushion, but then from there you have to stick to what you're doing.
Head Coach Randy Carlyle
On the win
I'm sure both teams have developed a little bit of animosity toward one another. It's something that carries over from year to year. We just tried to focus on getting the job done. We just came off a long road trip. I don't think we had a lot of jump, but we had enough jump. Just find a way to be the difference. Tonight we were lucky enough to get that done.
On defending Connor McDavid
I don't think you can just assign just one person to Connor McDavid. We think [Ryan] Kesler does a pretty good job checking most players he plays up against. The Kesler line scored two goals tonight. Those are big turning points for your game. You always like to have either your strongest defensive pairing or your best skating pairing out against Connor McDavid because of his ability to skate. He still created lots of chances for their hockey club tonight. He's a great player.
Edmonton Oilers
Brandon Davidson
On the California road trip
I know the emphasis on this trip was huge. We needed the points for sure. It's tough when we don't get them. It's nice to see that the effort is there. Everybody seems to be on board, but same old story again we don't get the points and it's frustrating. We have one more game here and we need to play well, we need those points so we will put our best foot forward.
On losing two players due to injuries
That was early in the game. I thought that guys responded well. A few guys got a few different positions to play and I thought they did well with it. It was good to see that our team is versatile like that.
Kris Russell
On tonight's game
I thought we were playing pretty well. Then, I make that mistake [turnover leading to goal] and it hurts your team when you go down by two. It takes the momentum and then you are playing catch up even more. I will take a lot of heat on this one just because that stuff can't happen this time of game, I'm on my back hand and I just need to make the safe play and go up the wall. It makes it harder on our team and harder on our goaltenders when you give up chances like that.
On the emphasis of this road trip and already losing two of three games
We are taking it a game at a time, but it's frustrating. We know these are two divisional games and there are times in the game when we played well enough to win. We had chances to bear down and score and we haven't. We made some stupid mistakes. We have one more game on this road trip and obviously there's more emphasis. We just have to keep working and obviously play a lot better for the full 60.
Head Coach Todd McLellan
On the outcome of tonight's game
Deserved and get there are two different things. We didn't play or check well enough to prevent them from getting the third [goal] and a costly turnover on their second, and an average to below average back check and we allowed them inside position at the net and it's in. At the other end of the rink, our opportunities that were similar to those didn't find their way to the back of the net. It's history repeating itself and it's becoming frustrating for the group and for the players, but there is nothing we can change tonight and we need to move forward tomorrow to San Jose.
On Anton Slepyshev's play
He was very good. He worked his way on to the powerplay and worked his way on to a situation where we pulled the goalie and he was on the ice. He deserved all the ice time he got and we need him to continue that as early as tomorrow.
