Devils defenseman Seamus Casey will be out of the lineup for the next 8-10 weeks after having knee surgery. He left the Devils preseason contest against the New York Rangers last week.
“He’s doing well in the sense that he got through surgery well,” head coach Sheldon Keefe said. “It was from the injury sustained in that Rangers game. It’s about an 8-10 week recovery is what they’re saying at this point.”
Casey, 22, also suffered an injury during training camp last season. He only appeared in two NHL games and 29 American Hockey League games in 2025-26 before having his season shutdown with surgery in February.
“Difficult for him. Of course, he’s fought some injuries and tough start to the season,” Keefe said. “In terms of how everything went, he’s doing well. He’ll start his rehab and we’ll get him back on the ice as soon as we can.”
Devils blueliner Johnathan Kovacevic, who has missed all of training camp and the preseason with a knee injury, joined the full group for practice for the first time on Friday.
“Today was the first, I would say real competitive practice that he’s been a part of,” Keefe said. “He seemed to get through it well. He’s pushing himself. If you could categorize where he’s at, I’d say that this is his training camp. He’s trying to get up to speed.
“His body is feeling good and healthy. It’s a matter of building up his workload to when they’re – the medical team – confident to put him in a game situation. He’s ramping up here right now. As long as there are no setbacks, we’ll keep pushing ahead. Hope it’s not too long into the future that he becomes available.”
