The New Jersey Devils are proud to announce that defenseman P.K. Subban has been named a finalist for the NHL's King Clancy Award. The award is given to a player "who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and who has made a significant humanitarian contribution to his community."
Subban is nominated alongside the San Jose Sharks Kurtis Gabriel and Nashville's Pekka Rinne.
This season Subban expanded his Blueline Buddies program to incorporate healthcare workers who have been on the front-lines of the Covid-19 pandemic. Subban worked around the pandemic and inability to host fans in person to take his program virtual to make sure he was still connecting with the New Jersey community, particularly in this time of need.
This season the program honored both healthcare workers and linking members of law enforcement with New Jersey's youth.
The winner of the award will receive a $25,000 donation to benefit a charity or charities of his choice, while the runners-up each will receive a $5,000 donation to benefit a charity or charities of their choice.
Subban was also a finalist at the 2020 awards.
The winners of all 2021 NHL Awards will be revealed during the Stanley Cup Semifinals and Stanley Cup Final, with further details to follow.
