Blog Road Trip 3-22

NEWARK, NJ -The Devils have embarked on a six-game, 10-day road trip through Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Washington and Boston.
The club started the trip right with a 2-1 overtime win at Pittsburgh's PPG Paints Arena on Sunday afternoon. That victory improved New Jersey's record on the road this season to 7-3-2, the second-best mark in the entire MassMutual East Division.
Devils head coach Lindy Ruff believes that the key to their success has been their approach to playing in unfriendly confines.

"We've simplified our game. We play a little bit simpler game (on the road)," Ruff said Monday afternoon.
The Devils' road success is at odds with their play at Prudential Center. New Jersey is 4-11-2 in
Newark
. Ruff attributes the contradictory performances to the team's mindset.
"Although there are no fans in the stands here at home, we've gotten careless at times," Ruff said. "It's cost us games. We haven't played quite as well defensively, and paid attention to details. I think that's frustrating.
"On the road we've had a more mature game. We've had a north-south game. We've had a game that we've been able to get a lead, hang on to it or stay close in games and find a way to get back in games and get points."
That mature game will serve them well during these next five road contests. They play in Philadelphia Tuesday, back-to-back games in Washington Thursday and Friday and in Boston Sunday and next Tuesday.
