ARLINGTON, Va. - Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson has been named the club's 2018-19 nominee for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy, the Capitals and National Hockey League announced today

The trophy is awarded annually "to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community."
Wilson has been involved with numerous programs in his career including Forty Three's Friends, So Kids Can, Top Shelf Teammates and additional initiatives.
This season Wilson launched Forty Three's Friends, donating four tickets per game across 20 games to Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic children. Following each game, Wilson spent time with the ticket recipients in the Capitals locker room.

Wilson also participates in So Kids Can with teammates Nicklas Backstrom and Braden Holtby, along with Elliot Segal from the Elliot in the Morning show. Each player and Segal donate $50 per Capitals win during the regular season and $100 per Capitals win during the playoffs to a local nonprofit organization.
In 2018-19, the group is raising money for Heart of America to transform a local learning environment. In November, the group surprised Hendley Elementary School with 75 laptops and 45 tablets that Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation, the charitable arm of the Washington Capitals, donated to the school as part of their partnership with the school through the DCPS Adopt-a-School Program. During an assembly, the players surprised the school by announcing Hendley as the recipient of a So Kids Can and Heart of America Foundation makeover.
In the 2017-18 season So Kids Can donated $40,511.52 to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Washington, DC. To date this season, So Kids Can has raised over $15,000 for the Heart of America Foundation.
In September, Wilson took part in a design session for Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation's KaBOOM! playground build at Bright Beginnings in Washington, D.C. Wilson also has previously been active with Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic, supporting multiple wishes the organization has granted.
Since the 2013-14 season, Wilson has also participated in Top Shelf Teammates, the hockey division of the Teammates for Kids Foundation. His participation in the program has directly resulted in $10,000 being donated to the Fort Dupont Ice Hockey Club.

Wilson was also active in additional initiatives, including the Capitals Canine Calendar that raised funding for Homeward Trails and the team's Hockey Fights Cancer initiatives.
The nominees were selected by their respective NHL clubs. The winner will be selected by a committee of senior NHL executives led by Commissioner Gary Bettman and Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly.
The three finalists for the 2018-19 King Clancy Memorial Trophy will be announced on Tuesday, April 23, and the winner will be revealed at the 2019 NHL Awards™ presented by Bridgestone on Wednesday, June 19 at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. The first-place finisher will receive a $40,000 donation from the National Hockey League Foundation to benefit a charity or charities of the winner's choice and the two runners-up will each receive a $5,000 donation from the National Hockey League Foundation to benefit a charity or charities of their choice.
