Dmitry Orlov signs one-year contract with Capitals

Restricted free agent defenseman Dmitry Orlov signed a one-year, $2.57 million contract with the Washington Capitals on Wednesday.
"Finally it happened," Orlov told CSN Mid-Atlantic on Wednesday. "Finally I'm happy to have a contract. It's easy to understand where I'm going to be. I'm excited and I hope we have a good year because we have a great team, great teammates. …Should be a good year for us. Whenever [Team Russia] finishes in the World Cup I will be happy to be back in D.C."

Orlov is playing for Team Russia at the World Cup of Hockey 2016.
Orlov, 25, set NHL personal bests last season in goals (eight), assists (21), points (29) and plus/minus rating (plus-8), averaging 16:01 of ice time in 82 regular-season games after missing all of the 2014-15 season because of injury. He had one assist in 11 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
"Last year was my first full year. [So] I should grow and improve my game," Orlov said. "I hope I will stay healthy all year and play better than last year, and keep learning [as] a player and growing [as] a player. And I think I have everything [I need] to do that because our team is one of the best in the League, and we have a good chance to win the Cup. For sure, when you are on a good team, you grow faster. So I think it's a great opportunity to play with these guys."
A second-round pick (No. 55) of the Capitals at the 2009 NHL Draft, Orlov has 14 goals and 60 points in 201 regular-season games.
"The more games I play, the more minutes I play, in different situations, the more experience I have," he said. "So I will learn and grow faster if I play more. I'm not 37 years old, I'm 25. That's not young, but I feel like I can grow."
