Metro: Bruins Academy Branching Out

BOSTON - Since the launch of the "Bruins Academy" educational children's television series in December of 2015, the Bruins Academy has grown to include a new mobile app, youth hockey programs, and various educational programs. The mission of Bruins Academy is to encourage positive youth development through the sport of hockey.

The Bruins Academy television series airs 30-minute long episodes every month on NESN, with segments geared towards teaching, learning and growing the sport of hockey among children across New England. Each episode is hosted by Emmy award-winning sports personality Charlie Moore, in addition to BostonBruins.com news and feature reporter Caryn Switaj. All episodes are also available on BostonBruins.com.
In its second season, the Bruins Academy television show features a multitude of segments that give kids fun insights about their favorite Bruins players and prospects, lessons on the sport of hockey and also highlights local youth hockey teams.
The "Know the Rules" segment features NHL official Wes McCauley explaining various rules of the game. Recent episodes have taught the specifics on rules such as tripping, holding, and penalty shots.

The "Around the NHL" section provides a glimpse into the lives of star players around the NHL. This season of Bruins Academy has featured NHL superstars such as Pittsburgh Penguins Captain Sidney Crosby, Montreal Canadians goalie Carey Price, Calgary Flames forward Johnny Gaudreau and Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Mathews.
The show is also filled with highlights from various community events, segments designed to promote health and fitness, and both youth and high school hockey spotlights. The new Bruins Academy Mobile App is an opportunity for youth to stay connected with all the latest Bruins activity and to learn about the Boston Bruin's rich history and traditions. The interactive app gives you a chance to chat directly with Bruins players, build your own avatar, test your Bruins trivia knowledge, and earn badges or unlock special features. Individuals who have the app will get first access to team news and all fun content.
In addition to the television show and the app, Bruins Academy is dedicated to providing exciting youth hockey and educational programs to inspire kids to be better and do better.
Through the Learn to Play Initiative, Curriculum, Summer Camp, and Development Day, Bruins Academy connects kids with each other, the team, and the community in a safe environment.
