The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed veteran goaltender Cam Talbot to a one-year, $950,000 contract for the 2026-27 National Hockey League season, club President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Don Waddell announced today.
“Adding depth in net has been a priority for us so we are very excited to add Cam Talbot to our club,” said Waddell. “He is a big, smart, fundamentally sound goaltender who has won a lot of games in our league. He is also a quality person,and we think he’ll be a great addition to our group.”
A two-time All-Star, Talbot has gone 278-204-53 with a 2.69 goals-against average, .911 save percentage and 33 shutouts in 567 career games over 13 NHL seasons with the New York Rangers, Edmonton Oilers, Philadelphia Flyers, Calgary Flames, Minnesota Wild, Ottawa Senators, Los Angeles Kings and Detroit Red Wings. He has spent the past two seasons with Detroit, compiling a 33-28-11 mark with a 3.03 GAA, .894 SV% and two shutouts in 81 appearances.
Talbot, 39, made his NHL debut with the Rangers in 2013-14 and spent two seasons in New York before playing three-plus seasons with the Oilers. In 2016-17, he finished fourth in voting for the Vezina Trophy after leading the NHL in wins with a 42-22-8 mark, 2.39 GAA, .919 SV% and seven shutouts in 73 games. He was traded to the Flyers late in the 2018-19 season and spent 2019-20 with the Flames.
He played the following two seasons in Minnesota, including 2021-22 when he went 32-12-4 with a 2.76 GAA, .911 SV% and three SO in 49 outings. He also made his All-Star Game debut that season at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, playing for the Central Division. He split the next two seasons between Ottawa and Los Angeles and earned his second All-Star Game appearance in 2023-24 as a King when he went 27-20-6 with a 2.50 GAA, .913 SV% and three SO in 54 games.
The 6-3, 202-pound native of Caledonia, Ontario has represented Canada at two IIHF World Championships (2016-gold medal, 2026) and has a combined record of 9-1-0 with a 1.50 GAA, .927 SV% and five shutouts in 10 appearances. He played three seasons of NCAA hockey at the University of Alabama-Huntsville from 2007-10. He led the Chargers to the College Hockey America championship and a berth in the NCAA tournament during his final season.
