Defeat on the Road

The Avalanche lost 3-2 to the Winnipeg Jets at Canada Life Centre on Wednesday. Jaden Schwartz and Fedor Svechkov each scored their first goals as members of the Avalanche, while Brett Kulak and Brent Burns both picked up an assist. Additionally, Colorado's penalty kill went a perfect 2/2.

How It Happened

The first shift of the game for the Avs' quintet of Lehkonen, MacKinnon, Necas, Toews and Makar was a positive one, with Makar and Necas each posting a shot on goal within the opening 1:01 of play. 

Blackwood kept the Jets off the board with a fantastic save on Alex Iafallo's backhand shot from the doorstep at 4:07 of the first period.

The Avalanche's only penalty kill of the opening frame was a successful one, highlighted by a blocked shot by Brock Nelson at 16:57.

With 20 seconds remaining in the first period, Blackwood made a key save on Winnipeg's Mark Scheifele's shot from the high slot.

Through the first 20 minutes of play, Colorado outshot Winnipeg 17-6.

Schwartz opened the scoring with his first goal of the season at 2:51 of the second period via a slap shot from the high slot. With the primary assist on the goal, Fedor Svechkov picked up his first point as an Av.

Winnipeg's Kyle Connor tied the game at 4:01 of the second period via a deflection from the slot on Neal Pionk's point shot.

At 10:19, Blackwood kept the score tied with a save on Isak Rosen's shot from the left slot.

Nelson picked up another key blocked shot at 14:59 of the second period, denying Scheifele's attempt from the slot.

Cole Perfetti gave the Jets a 2-1 lead at 18:16 of the middle frame with a net-front redirect.

At 12:35 of the third, Svechkov tied the game with his first goal of the season with a shot from the doorstep set up by Schwartz's backhand feed.

Connor gave the Jets a 3-2 lead at 19:00 of the third period with his second goal of the game via a shot from the left slot.
