DENVER – The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that the team has signed defenseman Domenick Fensore to a one-year contract for the 2026-27 season.
Fensore, 24, spent the 2025-26 season with the Chicago Wolves in the American Hockey League and recorded a career-high 35 points (10g/25a) across 60 games. He paced all team defensemen in assists and scoring and finished second among that cohort in goals leading to his selection to the AHL All-Star game. The blueliner also suited up in one NHL game with the Carolina Hurricanes. Across 18 Calder Cup playoff games, he collected six points (4g/2a) en route to securing a spot in the Cup Final.
The Bronxville, N.Y., native, has totaled 83 points (21g/62a) across 166 career AHL contests, all with the Wolves from 2023-26, and appeared in one other Calder Cup playoff game in 2025 with the club. Fensore made his NHL debut with the Canes on April 16, 2025 at Montreal and has totaled three appearances across the last two seasons. Additionally, the rearguard added nine games with the Norfolk Admirals in the ECHL and recorded 10 points (2g/8a) in 2023-24 before joining the Wolves.
Prior to turning pro, the 5-foot-9, 174-pound defenseman spent four seasons at Boston University from 2019-23, serving as team captain during his senior year. Fensore finished with a 19g/67a scoring line in 122 career NCAA showings and was selected to both the Hockey East First All-Star Team (2022-23) and the Hockey East Second All-Star Team (2021-22). As a senior, he posted 31 points (9g/22a) across 37 appearances to help Boston finish as the 2022-23 Hockey East regular season champions.
Selected in the third round (90th overall) by Carolina in the 2019 NHL Draft, Fensore represented the United States National Development Program in the USHL from 2017-19. The blueliner posted a 7g/35a scoring line in 60 USHL games during that span and saw eight games of playoff action, chipping in one point (0g/1a). He also appeared in 117 career NTDP games with the Development Program during that span and collected 73 points (8g/65a).
Internationally, Fensore represented his country at the 2019 IIHF Under-18 World Championship and recorded four points (0g/4a) in seven games to help the United States capture the bronze medal.
