The Colorado Avalanche lost 3-5 to the New Jersey Devils, the first time these two teams have battled each other since January 4th, 2020.
The Avs were up 2-0 at the end of the first, with early goals from Nathan Mackinnon and Mikko Rantanen.

Cale Makar opened the scoring in the second, extending his point streak to a new franchise record of thirteen games.
The Devils came back to tie the game at 3-3 with three unanswered goals over the remainder of the second. New Jersey took the lead with a power play goal in the 3rd from Nathan Bastian.
The contest ended with an empty net goal from the Devils with a final score of 3-5.
THE GOALS
1st Period
09:04 COL (1-0) - PPG Cale Makar made a pass down to the half boards to Mikko Rantanen who found Gabriel Landeskog for a quick shot off the pads of Niko Daws and up in the air where Nathan MacKinnon located the puck and batted the puck down off the ice and in.
14:27 COL (2-0) - PPG At the start of the power play, the puck was won back to Cale Makar who quickly found Nathan MacKinnon on the outside of the face-off dot for a cross ice pass to Mikko Rantanen who one-timed the puck off of Daws and into the net.
2nd Period
05:52 COL (3-0) - Cale Makar forced a turnover in the defensive zone and burst out of the zone with a quick pass Andre Burakovsky who entered the Devils zone and made a drop pass to Nathan MacKinnon. MacKinnon fed the puck to Devon Toews for a one-timer that was saved by Daws and quickly put away by Makar.
9:20 NJD (3-1) - After a broken stick from an Avalanche defenseman, the Devils' Tomas Tatar went on the counterattack and made a pass cross ice to Jesper Bratt who entered the zone, cut to the middle, and made a pass to Jonas Siegenthaler who made a quick wrist shot off the post to the stick of Tatar for a tap in goal.
12:18 NJD (3-2) - After a missed chance, Jack Hughes picked up the puck behind the Avalanche net a circled back to the point where he made a drop pass to Ty Smith who carried the puck in and attempted a back door pass which deflected off the stick of a sliding Samuel Girard and behind Kuemper.
17:21 NJD (3-3) - PPG After some offensive zone pressure, Pavel Zacha passed the puck from the point to Jesper Bratt at the face-off circle where Bratt made a couple quick moves before passing to the point to Damon Severson who wound up for a slap shot through the arm of J.T. Compher and passed Kuemper.
3rd Period
13:04 NJD (3-4) - PPG Jesper Bratt made a cross ice pass to Jack Hughes who took a quick shot that was saved by Kuemper right into the chest of Nathan Bastian who let the puck hit the ice and tapped it home.
18:19 NJD (3-5) Yegor Sharangovich scored an open net goal at the end of the third.
