What a first year in Utah for captain Clayton Keller! Let’s take a look back at the 2024-25 season for Keller.

On the Ice

It was a strong year for Keller who was a significant part of Utah’s offense. Keller led the team in goals (30), assists (60), and points (90) and received the Leading Scorer Award at Utah’s end of year team awards.

Last season, Keller set new career-highs in assists, points, power play goals (10), and power play points (37). He also tied a previous career-high with five game-winning goals. On the league level, Keller made a strong impression. The captain was top-15 in the NHL in both assists and points last season.

Throughout the season, Keller hit several significant career milestones. On Mar. 6 against the Detroit Red Wings, Keller tallied his 300th NHL assist. One month later, on Apr. 5, Keller hit 500 NHL points in Utah’s game against the Winnipeg Jets. On Apr. 14, in the second to last game of the season, Keller played his 600th NHL game.

The First

To be an NHL captain is an honor few have. It’s even more special to be the first-ever captain in a franchise’s history. On Oct. 4, the organization named Keller as the first player to wear the C in franchise history.

Keller shared this on the honor: “I’m extremely honored to be named captain of Utah Hockey Club. I’m grateful for the opportunity and want to thank the entire organization for believing in me. I understand it’s a privilege to be a captain in the NHL, and a huge honor to know that management, coaches, and my teammates have the belief in me to lead this team. It’s a huge responsibility and one I have prepared my whole life for. We have a room full of great leaders and together, we will work hard to achieve our goal of becoming a playoff team.”

Leading USA

Following a successful season with the Mammoth, Keller represented the United States at the 2026 IIHF Men’s World Championship. Keller was named captain of the team and helped USA Hockey pick up its first Men’s World Championship in 92 years!

Keller played all 10 games at this year’s tournament. He scored three goals and added seven assists for 10 points. This was the forward’s third time playing for the senior men’s team and third goal medal with USA.

Back at BU

Before he started his NHL career, Clayton Keller played for the Boston University Terriers on the men’s ice hockey team. When the team was in Boston, Keller revisited his old stomping grounds on this episode of Break the Ice.

Utah Love

Back in January, Keller discussed how passionate Utah’s fans are and what it’s like in his new home.
