Game Day Five: Senators at Flyers, Nov. 12

The set-up
Exactly one week after the Flyers came into Canadian Tire Centre and edged out a win over the Senators, the Senators will have a chance to repay the favour in Philadelphia. The last time these two met it was a goaltending exhibition with Cam Talbot stopping 26 of 28 shots he faced, good for a 0.929% save percentage, while Carter Hart stopped 33 of 34 shots he faced, for a 0.971% save percentage.
The Senators are coming off a hard-fought game against the red-hot New Jersey Devils in which they came from behind in the third period to force overtime. Though they didn't walk away with the win, taking a point off the hottest team in the NHL can be a confidence builder in and of itself.
"We battled back to come back and go into overtime," said Claude Giroux when asked about how getting a point off the Devils can build confidence ahead of Philadelphia. "Our third period was our best period and that's how we want to play as a team."
Roster notes
Forward Claude Giroux sat out of practice on Friday, though head coach D.J. Smith mentioned it was just a rest day and that he was expected to play against Philadelphia tonight. Additionally, forward Dylan Gambrell was out as he has not been feeling well, as such he is not expected to lace up his skates tonight.
Below is how the Senators lined up yesterday morning for practice at Canadian Tire Centre:
Forwards:
Tkachuk - Stützle - (presumably Giroux)
DeBrincat - Brassard - Batherson
Motte - Pinto - Joseph
Kelly - Kastelic - Watson
Defense:
Chabot - Bernard-Docker
Sanderson - Hamonic
Brannstrom - Holden
Zaitsev
Milestones within reach
Several milestones are set to be hit based on the projected roster, with a couple more within reach tonight:
Cam Talbot - One game from 400 career games played
Nick Holden - One game from 600 career games played
Tim Stützle - Two points from 100 career points
Brady Tkachuk - Four goals from 100 career goals
Thomas Chabot - Seven points from 200 career points
Who to watch
Forward Claude Giroux makes his return to Philadelphia for the first time donning opponents colours, and doesn't the red, black, white and gold look good on him! Though it's sure to be a special night for Giroux leading up to the game, don't expect the savvy vet to pull any punches once that puck drops.
Giroux has had an instant impact on the Senators since opting to join the team this past offseason. With seven goals and 12 points in his 13 games played he currently sits in second and third respectively on the team. The last time these two faced off, his first time against his former club, Giroux opened the scoring just under three minutes into the game. Coming into Saturday's contest Giroux is riding a seven-game point streak. Look for him to continue that stride here in Philadelphia.
