Cats & Coffee: ROAR Corps Auditions; World Champ Crowned

Good morning and welcome to "Cats & Coffee," a weekly segment presented by Community Coffee in which we get you caffeinated with an exciting look at the week ahead for the Florida Panthers.

The Panthers will be holding ROAR Corps Auditions for the 2018-19 season on Saturday, June 9 at the Panthers IceDen in Coral Springs, with callbacks to be held on Sunday, June 10 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Sunrise.
As the official Energy Team of the Panthers, the ROAR Corps are tasked with pumping up the crowd, scraping in the ice during timeouts and helping execute promotions. On non-game days, they are sent out into the community for watch parties, special events and more.
Now, before you get too excited (although excitement is certainly a plus in this line of business) there are a few things that are required of every ROAR Corps member, including being at least 18 years of age or a high school graduate or equivalent. Also, having the ability to skate isn't required, but it's a HUGE plus.
Additionally, all participants are required to go through every level of the audition process and must have a reliable form of transportation to get to and from events.

SUNSHINE & SKATES

Whether you want to become a hockey player, figure skater or simply someone who can take a few laps around the ice with ease, the Panthers' new "Learn to Skate" program is the perfect way to get started on achieving your dream.
In conjunction with the NHL and NHLPA, the Panthers will be offer their "Learn to Skate" program at four local rinks: The Panthers IceDen (Coral Springs), Palm Beach Skate Zone (Lake Worth), Palm Beach Ice Works (West Palm Beach) and Glacier Ice & Snow Arena (Pompano Beach).
This new program is designed for people of ALL AGES that have little or no prior skating experience. For $155 -- or $105 for children 12 or younger -- you will not only receive eight weeks of on-ice training from a certified instructor, but also a pair of ice skates to keep after the conclusion of the course.

WORLD CHAMPION CROWNED

Filip Forsberg scored the game-winning goal in the shootout to lift Sweden to a 3-2 win over Switzerland and a second straight gold medal at the 2018 IIHF World Championship in Copenhagen, Denmark on Sunday.
The Panthers had five representatives competing at the annual international event -- Aaron Ekblad (CAN), Bob Boughner (CAN), Evgenii Dadonov (RUS), Maxim Mamin (RUS) and Harri Sateri (FIN) - but none managed to medal.
Ekblad and Boughner progressed the farthest among their Floridian counterparts at the Worlds, helping Canada advance all the way to Sunday's bronze-medal game before suffering a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the United States.
Still, the Panthers had plenty of fine individual showings at the tournament.
Ekblad ranked second among Canadian defenseman with six points (one goal, five assists), Dadonov and Mamin combined to record 10 points (five goals, five assists) for Russia, and Sateri won four of his five starts for Finland.
