BOSTON -- Frederik Andersen made 32 saves, and Auston Matthews and Zach Hyman each scored in the second period to help the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 4-1 win against the Boston Bruins at TD Garden on Saturday.
James van Riemsdyk and Connor Brown scored in the third period, and defenseman Matt Hunwick had two assists for the Maple Leafs (11-10-5), who won for the first time in four games (1-2-1) and the third time in 14 road games (3-6-5).
Andersen, who is 11-7-4 in his first season with the Maple Leafs, is 6-0-0 in his career against the Bruins.
"[Andersen] was the best player on the ice," Matthews said. "He's making huge saves, especially in that first period. You know things were kind of not rolling for us, we were giving up a lot of opportunities, and he stood on his head."

Brad Marchand scored his first goal in six games, and Tuukka Rask made 16 saves for the Bruins (15-12-2), who have lost three in a row (0-2-1). Boston allowed the first two goals to Toronto after allowing the first three goals in their previous two games.

"It was one of those games again. Early on in the season, there were times we've kept the puck out of our own net and scored one or two goals," Rask said. "But today we were down by two again and trying to catch up and get yourself going."
After they were outshot 11-2 in the first period, the Maple Leafs scored on their second shot of the second, when Matthews beat Rask at 1:44. The No. 1 pick of the 2016 NHL Draft has 12 goals, six in his past seven games.
Hyman scored to make it 2-0 with a tip-in at 15:14.

"I thought in the first period we didn't do anything, didn't win any battles, didn't skate," Toronto coach Mike Babcock said. "We were way better in the second, skated and had much better play."
The Bruins pulled within 2-1 after David Backes jammed at the rebound of a Marchand wraparound shot, and then Marchand tapped in another rebound with 1:21 left in the second.

Van Riemsdyk scored at 9:52 of the third period for a 3-1 Toronto lead. It was his 12th goal.
Brown scored into an empty net to make it 4-1 with 1:23 left.

Goal of the game

William Nylander went around Bruins forward David Pastrnak by using a self-pass off the sidewall to gain the offensive zone, and then drew Boston defenseman Zdeno Chara to him before setting up Matthews for a wrist shot that beat Rask high to the glove side from the left hash marks.

Unsung performance of the game

They said it

"First chances are there, but then we don't pounce on the second and third opportunities. Obviously, the goalies are too good in this league if you don't make it hard on them. So I think a lot of it is that." -- Bruins center Patrice Bergeron
"We wanted to put [Connor] Brown with [Nazem] Kadri, but I thought [William Nylander] was skating right from the get-go. His buddy is [David] Pastrnak over there who's obviously playing real well. It's always nice to play well against your buddy, and he stepped up tonight and was important for us." -- Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock
