Conor Sheary signed a three-year, $6 million contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday. It has an average annual value of $2 million.

The 31-year-old forward had 37 points (15 goals, 22 assists) in 82 games for the Washington Capitals last season.

"I think a lot of guys in the League have Tampa circled ... their sustained success has been something I wanted to be a part of," Sheary said. "The feeling that they wanted [me] as much as I wanted them really made the decision easy."

Signed by the Pittsburgh Penguins as an undrafted free agent July 1, 2015, Sheary has 252 points (120 goals, 132 assists) in 531 regular-season games for the Capitals, Penguins and Buffalo Sabres and 23 points (seven goals, 16 assists) in 72 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

"I think Tampa itself is a desirable place," Sheary told NHL Network. "The success that Tampa has had over the last number of years -- playing against them is always difficult it seems. So to be on that side of it is going to be good. My speed fits in, my game fits in and I think hopefully it'll be a perfect match."

Sheary won the Stanley Cup with the Penguins in 2016 and 2017.

"My game has been pretty consistent throughout my career ... relentless on the forecheck and turnovers," Sheary said. "I feel like I can move up and down a lineup wherever they might need me. I think they play with a lot of speed and that's a big asset of mine."
