AHL team dons throwback jersey Snoop Dogg wore in 'Gin and Juice' video

With so much drama in the AHL it's kinda hard being the Springfield Thunderbirds, but they, somehow, some way, keep coming up with funky promotions like every single day.

This time around? The Thunderbirds decided to host a "Blast From The Past" night on Saturday. But the Florida Panthers affiliate has something few others can claim. The jersey of one of their predecessors made an appearance in the video for the West Coast rap classic "Gin & Juice."

In Snoop Dogg's 1994 hit single, the iconic rapper donned a blue Springfield Indians jersey with a gold dog bone chain hanging out of the front. In other scenes, Snoop had on a black Pittsburgh Penguins jersey, customized with a number 94 and "Gin And Juice" along the nameplate. But it was the Indians jersey that Snoop made famous.

The Thunderbirds are not the same franchise as the Indians. The Indians were once owned by Hockey Hall of Famer Eddie Shore, who purchased the team in 1939, and are now called the Utica Comets.They are currently affiliated with the Vancouver Canucks.
But the Thunderbirds do occupy the same market the Indians once did, in the city of Springfield, Mass. So they decided to run a little promotion around the famous sweater.
In addition to wearing the throwback jerseys, the team offered fans $5 gin and juice drinks.

That promotion had to help fans keep their mind on their money and their money on their mind.
