Crosby's OT goal excites Punjabi-language broadcaster

Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins scored his first career Stanley Cup Playoff overtime goal Monday, a special moment captured enthusiastically by the "Hockey Night in Canada Punjabi" broadcast.

Play-by-play voice Harnarayan Singh had the signature call on OMNI Television's Punjabi-language broadcast of Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Final between the Penguins and Tampa Bay Lightning. Crosby's goal 40 seconds into overtime tied the series 1-1.
Crosby, 28, may have outgrown his longtime nickname, "Sid the Kid," but Singh took it upon himself to give the Penguins captain a new moniker for his prime years.

"I was just as surprised as everyone when I later found out that it was Crosby's first-ever playoff overtime goal," Singh told NHL.com. "It's surprising because he's been one of the best players in the League for a while now ... and he's not a kid anymore, so it made the goal call even that much more fitting."
In addition to the call of Crosby's goal, Singh's call of Nick Bonino's series-clinching overtime goal in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Second Round against the Washington Capitals also made the social trendsmap in Pittsburgh.
"I'm humbled and thrilled to have my goal calls trending!" Singh said. "It's every broadcaster's goal to capture the great moments of their sport, to create something special and unique that fans everywhere will appreciate. I feel very fortunate that hockey fans are enjoying my goal calls."
The Penguins themselves have given Hockey Night Punjabi props for these popular goal calls.
