The Pittsburgh Penguins advanced to the Eastern Conference Second Round and will play the Washington Capitals or Columbus Blue Jackets.
Pittsburgh defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 8-5 in Game 6 on Sunday to end that first-round Stanley Cup Playoff series. It was the ninth straight series win for Pittsburgh, which won the Stanley Cup the past two seasons.

The Capitals lead the Blue Jackets 3-2 in their best-of-7 series with Game 6 at Columbus on Monday (7:30 p.m. ET; CNBC, SN, TVAS2, FS-O, NBCSWA).

The Penguins would have home-ice advantage against the Blue Jackets. Washington would have it against Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh has played Washington 10 times in the playoffs, including second-round wins in each of the past two seasons (six games in 2016, seven games in 2017). The Penguins have won nine of the 10 series, including seven in a row.

The Penguins and Capitals split four regular-season games. Evgeni Malkin had six points (two goals, four assists), Phil Kessel and Patric Hornqvist each had three goals and one assist, and Sidney Crosby had three assists for Pittsburgh. Matt Murray started the four games and was 2-2-0 with a 3.01 goals-against average and .899 save percentage.

Alex Ovechkin led the Capitals with three goals and five points. T.J. Oshie and Dmitry Orlov each scored twice, and Evgeny Kuznetsov had four points (one goal, three assists). Braden Holtby was 1-2-0 with a 3.60 GAA and .897 save percentage. Backup Philipp Grubauer made 36 saves in a 3-1 win April 1.
The Penguins won the four games against the Blue Jackets, including two in a shootout and one in overtime (5-4 on April 5). Malkin (two goals, four assists) and Kessel (three goals, three assists) each had six points. Hornqvist had five points (two goals, three assists), and Crosby had three assists. Murray was 3-0-0 with a 3.15 GAA and .895 save percentage. Tristan Jarry made 35 saves in a 5-2 win Feb. 18.
Artemi Panarin led the Blue Jackets with four goals and three assists. Pierre-Luc Dubois had six points (one goal, five assists), and Boone Jenner scored two goals. Sergei Bobrovsky went 0-1-3 allowing 16 goals (3.82 GAA, .889 save percentage).
